Brief History

GAA activity in the parish of Errigal Ciaran goes back as far as 1913, and many fine teams represented the old Ballygawley St.Ciaran's club from those early days; county titles were captured in 1926 and 1931. As the subsequent years rolled by, no team from the parish managed to annex the elusive O'Neill cup again until 1993, and the celebrations that greeted that particular win against defending champions, Moortown in Edendork will forever be remembered.

In December of 1993, we created our own piece of history when Errigal Ciaran GAC became the first Tyrone club to capture the prestigious Ulster Club Championship. To date further county titles have been delivered in 1994, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2012. In fact 2002 was an extra special year as our senior team remained undefeated both domestically and in Ulster, and our second Ulster club success was secured.

The year 2002 was also an unforgettable year for our U-14's, who swept the boards in Tyrone, and followed up when they were crowned All-Ireland Feile na nOg champions on a remarkable day for the club in Carlow.

Our club can boast of active participation from U-8 right through to the ranks of our adult players, both male and female. In fact our ladies have achieved some exceptional victories since their inception in 1990, clinching various titles at all grades including a first county title, backed up with a memorable Ulster title for the senior team with their 2-5 to 0-8 victory over Monaghan champions, Donaghmoyne in October 2007.

Many of our players and club members have also represented the various county teams down through the years, achieving some notable success both at underage and at adult level along the way. However very few will forget the All Ireland victories for the Tyrone senior teams, in particular the first time 'Sam' came to Tyrone in 2003, with the team managed by our own Mickey Harte and captained by the mercurial genius of Peter Canavan.

Off the field, the club is totally committed to the concept of Scor and all it represents. Under the guidance of former Scor co-ordinator, Gerry McCann, we have achieved outstanding success both in Tyrone and in Ulster. However our most treasured achievements to date have both been in Scor Sinsear, when our ballad group in 2000 and novelty act in 2012 clinched All-Ireland titles, first in the Ulster Hall in 2000 and then in the INEC, Killarney in 2012. Some wonderful memories with hopefully many more to come!

In 1995, we embarked on an ambitious four phase redevelopement programme at Cardinal MacRory Park, Dunmoyle to include a new pitch, spectator stand, training field and new dressing room facilities. While we have successfully completed all four phases of the project, the club soldiers on to strive and improve all our facilities for our members. To this end, work continues to upgrade facilities both in Dunmoyle and also in the Playing Fields in Ballygawley, where we have secured a long term lease from Dungannon District Council and where many of our teams currently train when Cardinal MacRory Park is fully occupied.

Financing the various projects and upgrades could not take place without the significant support of Club Errigal who organise fundraisers including the various draws and the weekly lotto 'Alphalot'. This assistance is vital in ensuring we can meet the demands of the modern club.

Our club will continue to promote the ideals of the Association, and in doing so we will endeavour to secure the future of Errigal Ciaran GAC for generations to come.
